Pshycos! - 2016 "Remain Loyal to Jehovah" Regional Convention Program
by thedepressedsoul inwow this is interesting!
i think how much emphasis this puts on "loyalty" shows their is an issue.
they're trying to plug the wholes as much and quickly as possible.

I love that the shunning talk is immediately followed by a talk on being forgiving. -

JW's Funerals, Forget About The Person! Let's Preach.
by new boy ingod forbid you would talk about the dead person at his funeral.
so what do most people get after living 70-80 years?.
a 5-10 minutes eulogy.

I never knew how weird this was as we never attended the funerals of non-JW relatives because they were usually held in a church. We didn't go to non-JW weddings for the same reason. Any activities held in a church were off limits, even if the activity was not religiously themed. I've still never been to a "worldly" funeral. I can only guess what goes on by what I've seen in movies and tv. -

JW Expressions We Hate
by Socrateswannabe ini was browsing through stuff on jw.org recently and ran across some expressions that really grate on my nerves: loyal love, loving-care, and loving-kindness, as in: "please exercise loving-kindness toward your servant.
" who talks like that?
they must be relics of the fred franz era.

I hate the phrase "brings out" that some Jdubs would say when giving comments.
"As the paragraph brings out..."
"As the scripture brings out..."
"As Bro/Sis Jones brought out..."
I get what they're trying to say, but they're trying too hard to sound intelligent.

How do I handle this situation?
by BarelyThere inhey everyone.
i'm sorry that this isn't a very thought provoking post but i could really use some advice on how to handle this.
there isn't anyone else in my life i can ask right now because, being dfed, all of my friends are "worldly" and don't know how witnesses function.

I'd keep my mouth shut and keep watching my email for more messages. The messages may get nastier and I'd want to know what's being gossiped about me. I don't care if some people think it's spying. If it's about ME and coming into MY email it's MY business. And like Crazyguy said above, they may end up working in your favor should you have difficulty with your family in the future.

Alan Rickman's Passing
by TipsyMangoTea inalan rickman, best known to my generation as prof. severus snape from the harry potter film franchise, has passed away due to cancer at the age of 69.. growing up with a witness mother, anything related to science fiction and fantasy was looked down upon, so, naturally, i was a rebel rebel (oh david bowie...).. just wanted to let any potterheads know the news and that even if you feel like you'll never be free of the deadly watchtower, you're not alone and there's hope.. always..

I've never seen Harry Potter, but loved him in Sense and Sensibility and Galaxy Quest. Amazing actor, and that voice...his voice was hypnotic, I could watch that scene where he reads to Kate Winslet all day. Such a tragic loss. -

never payed taxes like most of us, and probably have never cooked their own meals.. im sorry.....im venting, but it burns my hyde....that they kicked so many old timers to the curb.....as they go live in luxury, in their lake-front condos in warwick.
its sick!!!.

Is that really true? I don't know much about their backgrounds, but if they aren't being inducted into the GB until middle age, they must've had some kind of employment in their youth or young adulthood.

Are Bethelites Buying and Preparing their own Food?
by TakeOffTheCrown insamuel herd made the following statement at the 2015 annual meeting regarding the reduction of services at bethel.. we will be reducing personnel at bethel.
some bethel family members will be invited to serve in the field.
in addition to their regular work, bethel family members will be caring for many of the services that were previously provided by fellow bethelites.. .

Wives doing all the cleaning, cooking and laundry? Huh? Is this 1918? or 1960? Bethel wives work at Bethel just as hard as their husbands do!
I believe TakeOffTheCrown was referring to the GB's wives, not the regular Bethelite wives. Certainly they have enough time to fry some bacon and eggs for their men, don't they? What exactly do GB wives do all day?

Double life
by Esmeralda001 inis there a way i can successfully live a double life?
don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to get engaged in activities that are condemnable according to the *bible* (not the *wt*) standards.
i figured that the only way i can get the brothers and sisters to leave me along is by pretending that i am an unemployed drop out.

A better option would be to stop associating with them so you'll no longer have to play these games, but for some reason you seem unable/unwilling to do that. You can pretend to be miserable, but didn't you say you've already been counseled about your bad attitude? They will always find something to criticize you about. When will you say enough is enough?

Is the entire congregation automatically invited if it's held in a kingdom hall? If the couple wanted only 30 people there, for example, would they be allowed?
